I really wanna!

I really want to be a photographer. I just don't know where to start. I think I have some natural talent. I worked for a photographer as his assistant after me and the mister tied the knot...he taught me some stuff, but I know I need to learn a lot more. And I wouldn't feel right charging people cause I'm not a real photographer, but I have nowhere to begin. I just take a uber lots of pictures of my kidlets cause they are my only subjects.
{sigh}
Any suggestions?
I'm lame I know!

I would say the first thing you should do is get a portfolio of your work together. Maybe do some freebies for a few people to get a variety of subjects and poses. Then get the word out! Decide if you want to do mainly families and kids, weddings, whatever and then get your name out there through word of mouth, or maybe set up a drawing at a retail store where the winner gets a free session. Then you can call those who didn't win and offer them a discounted rate. I don't know. I'm just throwing things out there. From what I've seen, you take great pictures! So, take the bull by the horns woman!

I agree that you take really great pictures and you should definitely go for it! I had several suggestions but as I read Ashley's comment I think she covered it. (Obviously great minds think alike) Keep us all posted on how it goes. Good luck!

If you wanted to learn some stuff, or had questions, Blake would probably help you out. He worked for a studio for quite a few years. You do great with posing and stuff. I would definitely say you have talent. I love the pics you put on of your kids, but it helps that they are so cute too! =)

I think that practice and passion is what makes a good photographer. You have the passion and you did practice some, so keep practicing and read blogs. You have the personality to be an amazing photographer friend, I think you should totally go for it!

Hey! I remembered reading about you wanting some help! There is this amazing photographer from Utah that lives in Texas now. She is coming home for a few weeks and is offering some one on one sessions. Seriously, check her out. She is soooo amazing. Her blog is auburnsoul.blogspot.com... I think she will be doing our next family photos!
