I had to go grocery shopping today....for real...it was a chore. Why? Because I haven't been really shopping since before Christmas so I was in need of a bunch of stuff....and none of it was fun stuff.
Anyway as I was checking out I noticed the lady in front of me and I kinda had to chuckle at the things she was buying...what she bought that was generic brand...and what she bought that was name brand. For example so had generic shampoo....but name body wash. (this could be because of the price...but still.) She had generic cans of soup...but name brand cans of vegetables.
So this all got me thinking...there is stuff that I don't care if I have the generic, or the no name...but there are things...that I must have the real deal.
For example. Mac and Cheese. It HAS to be the real blue box. KRAFT only.
So what do you HAVE to buy that is name brand and not generic....or does it NEVER matter?
XOXO

agreed on the mac n cheese. weird.
um, let's see... basically milk products in general. cream cheese should be the philadelphia (is that what it's called?), sour cream should be the Daisy brand. i don't care about veggies. but cleaning products, i feel like they work better if they're the name brand. and plastic bags (Ziploc!) too.
Danielle...agreed with the Ziploc!
I also agree on the Mac & Cheese, only name brand. But I will only buy the Great Value baggies because the Ziploc leaves a weird taste on the food. I thought I was the only one who noticed this but my sister in law said the same thing one time when we were cleaning up Sunday dinner. I will totally buy Great Value in most things but I am a name brand snob in things like cream of chicken, detergent and Cascade. I liked this post friend it made me laugh because I am probably that lady in the grocery store lol
XOXO

Too funny! I did a post like this back in '08, so I copied and pasted it here:
Name Brand vs. Generic
I was thinking today that I have quite a long list of brand name items that I now must have over the generic ones. I think this list really started to get long after I got married, because Blake introduced me to things that I now love and never want to give up. I know that I am probably spending a lot more money on these things than other people, but hey, to me it's worth it!
1. Kraft Macaroni & Cheese
2. Tide detergent
3. Dove soap
4. All chips (SunChips, Doritos, Tostitos, etc) must be name brand
5. Charmin Toilet Paper
6. Cool Whip
7. Jif Peanut Butter
8. Claussen Dill pickles
9. Yoplait Yogurt
10. Name brand soda pop
11. Puffs with lotion
12. Heinz Ketchup
Things that I don't care about buying generic:
1. Great Value Fruit Smiles (the cheapest and pretty darn good fruit snack out there)
2. Medicine
3. Milk
4. Cheese (sorry Carliles - I can't afford Tillamook!)
I buy mostly generic because of price, but I MUST have name brand for these items: Palmolive dish soap, Campbell's tomato soup, Gain fabric softener, Hidden Valley ranch dressing, Kraft cheese singles, and Coca Cola products. I've tried generics for all of these and went right back to name brand.
